A guide to content sharing in Blast Works

>

As you can see in the helpful video above, sharing your own stuff in Blast Works is likely going to be a … well, uh … a blast. It looks fun, doesn’t it? Of course, the main issue is will anyone actually take the time to share? We hope so!

The stuff that folks can share ranges from something as small as a ship to something as big as an entire stage. It really looks like it’ll offer Wii owners some solid online content. And, as you all know, the Wii is in need of some online functionality.

This is what the Neo Geo Stick 2 looks like

As much as we’d love to import one of these gorgeous arcade sticks — modeled after the original Neo Geo AES arcade stick — $59.90, not including steep shipping fees for the 4+ lb. controller, is just too rich for our blood, especially since it’s only compatible with a limited selection of Wii games. For Virtual Console games, however, this would be the business.

For now, we’ll just have to live through David Spreckley who bought one of these sticks from an Akihabara shop and posted photos of the unboxed product online to torment jealous gamers. Down, Down Forward, Forward + Punch past the post break for another glamour shot of the Neo Geo Stick 2.

Amazon paints in a new price for Okami

Filed under:

Following Best Buy’s example, Amazon has marked down its Wii copies of Okami to $29.99 from its standard $39.99 pricing, throwing in free shipping for good measure. You won’t even have to leave your house to take advantage of this deal, now. In fact, you don’t even have to get up from your chair!

We’re not sure how long the online retailer plans to host the sale, so buy the game now or you’ll never find a use for that replacement boxart you ordered. That’s right, we’re totally on to you. You ordered one of those covers without actually buying the game just to get free stuff, didn’t you?

VC Tuesday: Ji-noog

That’s how you pronounce “Gynoug!” Until we saw it written in Japanese katakana (a system that has the benefit of being predictably phonetic), we totally pronounced the title of NCS’s shooter “Guy-noog.” How embarrassing! We hope we didn’t sound stupid the last time we were talking about it in public, which was approximately never. Although we’re not the only ones — even Wikipedia’s got an inaccurate IPA transcription!

Of course, here in the States we call it Wings of Wor, and we never really had occasion to talk about it either. It’s not that our friends aren’t as into retrogaming as we are, it’s more that they don’t exist.

Pit is back, in plush form

Filed under:

Judging by her gallery, DeviantARTist VioletLunchell seems to specialize in these chibi-style plushes, and her latest piece of work, this Pit plushie, will resonate with anyone who found themselves turned off by the recent batch of alleged concept art for the alleged Wii game.

The artist herself confesses to “[not knowing] anything about video games,” but she’s done a fairly awesome job here — this blogger would love one of these to place next to his numerous Pikmin plushes, but sadly this was a one-off commission piece. Probably a good thing, really. There comes a time when a man of 28 really has enough plushes.

[Thanks, YaYaLuvsCupcakes!]

Being the soft, sensitive types that we are, we love our plushes here at Wii Fanboy. Nothing is exempt from our plushie love — and that includes Metroids, Chocobos, Rabbids, and the Wii itself. We even adore the ugly and gruesome ones.

Wii Warm Up: Channel spitballing

Filed under:

Talk about cool DS and Wii integration over at DSF got us thinking about the Channel line-up on the Wii right now, game-specific and just those released by Nintendo for our pleasure. Some of the Channels we’re all about, yet some just kind of sit there, on the Nintendo servers. Frankly, we refuse to download them because of how useless they are.

So who knows better than you, the fans, right? We want to hear your ideas for some cool Channels that can be implemented into the Wii. Anything is fair game here, from the ridiculous to the realistic. Lay it on us!

Deaths that don’t mix with Super Mario Bros.

Filed under:

>>>>

Oh, the memories we have from our days playing Super Mario Bros. in our PJs, bellies full of sugary cereal. We can’t tell you how many times we’ve watched Mario die, whether it be falling down an endless chasm or getting torched by a runaway fireball while penetrating the darkest corners of Bowser’s castle.

What would you get if Mario’s death animation was swapped out for the death animation of, say, Mega Man? Or Q-Bert? Our personal favorite? The use of Friday the 13th.

DDR2 Hottest Party 2 screens show Mii support, poor outfit decisions

Filed under:

What does this woman think she’s doing? We have seen some terrible outfits before, but this woman is crazy enough to wear hers with a smile. She should be ashamed just to have these embarassing pieces in her wardrobe, let alone actually on her, in public view. What excuse does anyone have to ever own checkerboard-patterned thigh-highs?

In case you missed the news from last week, Konami is following up its previous DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party game with DDR Hottest Party 2, promising Mii support, new gimmicks like the “triple stomp,” more Wii remote interaction in the Dance n’ Defend Battle Mode, new stages, and new characters, such as the unfortunate looking woman mentioned above. The rhythm title will also support a new soundtrack including “smash-hits from the last 4 decades,” like Rihanna’s immensely annoying “Umbrella” (ella, ella, ay, ay, ay) and Michael Jackson’s least exciting single, “Black or White.”

But let’s get back to what’s really on every gamer’s mind — how do these people live with themselves dressing in these clothes? This lady thinks she can get away with wearing a Zebra-print cap with matching hot pants and boots. Protip: it’s best to pair a loud print with a neutral piece, rather than mixing or matching it with more loud prints. Now you know.

More puzzling details about Tetris and Bomberman surface

A recent Siliconera interview with Hudson Japan’s VP, Kentaro Murayama, has revealed quite a few interesting details about some upcoming Hudson games. For one, we were a bit startled to hear that the company’s WiiWare rendition of Tetris might incorporate the Balance Board. Right now Hudson is just “tossing around the idea,” but even so — that sounds like crazy talk. We’re sure regular controls would be offered even if the game ended up utilizing the board, but we can’t help but wonder how it would even work.

Murayama also cleared up some of the confusion between the disc-based and WiiWare versions of Bomberman. The disced game will include a tutorial mode, a “deep” story mode, thirty-nine stages, thirty-one different enemies, and five bosses. The Bomberman for WiWare, on the other hand, will (clearly) cost less, which seems to be its main advantage.

Both titles will include battle mode, but the Wii version will have twelve stages and twenty “appeal motions,” while the WiiWare one will have just ten of each. Fortunately, you can battle with friends no matter which version they own, as the battles can cross between the disc-based and WiiWare games.

To check out more details about Hudson’s upcoming lineup, just click on the “Read” link under the galleries.
